Clothing Bank – St. Austell
The effects of the current financial situation are widespread and many people are wishing to show their kindness and support for each other which led us to set up the START Clothing Bank as our first initiative.
It is a voluntary organisation recently set up by us to help people who are trying to live on a low income and endure the ever increasing challenges to their finances. Whether on a low income or receiving benefits a huge number of our population struggle to pay for the absolute basics in life, hence the enormous increase in people using food banks or living rough.
START Clothing Bank aims to support people in need by providing at no charge good, clean clothing donated by the community, supplying as wide a range of clothes as possible- from babies’, maternity and children’s clothes (hopefully including local school uniform items) and shoes to adult clothing, hats and gloves.
Ultimately START hopes to gather more volunteers to become an autonomous organisation- run by it’s members with support from the core group. It will also offer a place where people can meet with others and hopefully feel less isolated.
We are currently accepting donations of good, clean adults and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories. If you would like to help but do not have clothes to donate we also need plastic storage boxes, coat hangers and carrier bags, so if you would like to donate some of these items we would be most grateful.
